Obituary for Dolores M. Martinez

Dolores M. Martinez
1933 - 2017
Dolores M. Martinez journeyed to her heavenly home on Sunday, July 9, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was 84 years young. She was born April 27, 1933 to Jose Ignacio and Maria Guadalupe Martinez in Laredo, Texas. She graduated from Raymond and Tirza Martin High School in 1951 and began working for LFD (Laredo Furniture Depot) shortly thereafter.
While working at LFD she met Arturo M. Martinez, and after many failed attempts Arturo finally was granted a date; the rest is history. Arturo and Dolores married in August of 1960. They had 3 sons, Arturo Jr., Rene and Marco “Mark”. After raising her boys, Dolores, now 45, went back to work and was a clerk for CP&L. She retired when the company moved to Corpus Christi. She began her 3rd career at Laredo Community College as a Library Clerk. While employed at LCC she went back to school and took a variety of dance and general study courses. She was known as “Mom” to all and was voted Most Friendly at LCC twice. She retired, yet again, at 70 years old. In 2003, she moved to Boerne to be closer to her sister and children. She made friends quickly and easily at Boerne Park Meadows, became a member of the Red Hats and began attending the Rainbow Senior Center at Kronkosky Place. While at the senior center she took Zumba and tai-chi classes and enjoyed them very much. She loved to dance, ballet folkloric, going to the movies and cooking, hence the collection of 300 plus cookbooks. She enjoyed traveling with her children, her sisters, and grandchildren. When out and about she always made it a point to introduce her family; she was very proud of her 3 sons. She was a Spurs fan and attended many games and even got to sit court side at one of them and was overjoyed. She was also a Pitbull (Mr. Worldwide) fan and saw him in concert 3 times. Her dream to go to Spain was made a reality by her youngest son, Marco. Their 3-week trip included Ballet Folkloric in Spain, Christmas Eve Midnight Mass with Pope Benedict at the Vatican, and New Year's Eve in Paris across the Eiffel Tower. Dolores’ love, smile and laughter will be greatly missed.
Dolores is survived by her 3 sons, Arturo M. (Michelle) Martinez, Jr. of Austin, Rene J. Martinez of Houston and Marco A. (Norma) Martinez of San Antonio. Her sisters, Sara A. (Gib) Jackson of Boerne and Thelma M. (Roger) Hayes of Columbia, South Carolina. Her grandchildren, Kassandra S. and Josef J. Martinez of Austin and Merrick R. Martinez of Houston. Her sister-in-law’s Diana Martinez of Corpus Christi, Luisa and Maria Martinez of McAllen. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and her lifelong friend Mague Idrogo of Laredo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jose I. Martinez, Jr., her sister Maria de la Luz Martinez and her loving husband Arturo M. Martinez, Sr.
