Ethel Lou Buchanan
January 7, 1929 – May 27, 2018

Ethel Lou Buchanan was born on January 7, 1929 to Louis and Goldie Martin and peacefully joined her husband of 59 years on May 27, 2018. She married her husband, David “Buck” Buchanan and had 7 children, who gave them 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She lived and worked in San Antonio for the first part of her life and then relocated the family to Boerne in the early 1970’s. She worked in accounting at Longhorn Cement and later in Boerne at Kendall County Tax Office. She loved Christmas and had a reputation of being an avid collector of Santa Clauses. She had over 2,000 Santa figurines, pictures, plates and other various collectibles which she had on display in her house all year long. She was also a member of the “8-Balls”, a group of women that started out as friends in elementary school at Our Lady of the Lake and continued the friendship all of their lives. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband , and her sister Leah Lewis. She is survived by her children: Linda Kotzur(John), Ruth Pope(Bill), Kari Kachel (Dean Poole), Cindy Bernhard (Robert), Steve Buchanan(Susan), Brenda Wilson and Vikki Buchanan.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank New Hope Assisted Living and Alamo Hospice for the attention and kindness they showed her during her time there. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne. Recitation of the Rosary will precede the service at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Alamo Hospice, 1595 S.
