Obituary for Franz Josef Hallermann

Franz Josef Hallermann, MD, PhD, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, August 28th, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gisela; his four children, Henning, Detlef, Petra, and Sven; his daughter-in-law, Milynda; and his two grandchildren, Axel and Sabine. Franz was born the son of Franz and Elisabeth Hallermann from Ahlen, Germany on April 23, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pia Hallermann Klapsch, MD. He is survived by his siblings, Edmund Hallermann and Eberhart Hallermann, MD. Franz was raised in Ahlen, Germany and moved to the United States to continue his medical studies.
Franz was a Mayo trained, board certified radiologist for 48 years. Franz achieved the distinction of Doctor of Philosophy in Radiology from the University of Minnesota and was awarded the Carman Fellowship in Roentgenology by the Mayo Association. He worked as a staff physician at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for eight years, and then as a partner in Radiology Associates in Corpus Christi, TX for forty years. Franz is the primary and contributing author of several articles that were published in peer-reviewed, professional and academic journals. He served in many physician leadership roles during the course of his career including President of the Nueces County Medical Society, Chief of Radiology at Doctors Hospital and Bay Area Medical Center, and President of the Board of Directors at Bay Area Medical Center.
Franz had a great love for the outdoors, agriculture, and hunting. Franz was also a Cattleman and Partner in the J-Bar 4 Ranch, raising Beefmaster cattle near Alice, Texas. He also enjoyed the fraternal fellowship in his volunteer efforts with the Knights of Columbus.
He is remembered by his family, friends, and colleagues as a selfless and caring husband, father, and friend who put others before himself and provided a strong example of Christian living to those who knew him.
A Rosary Service will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Thursday, September 6th, at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 7th, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with a reception to follow in the Marron Center.
