Obituary for James Gilbert Jackson

James Gilbert “Gib” Jackson journeyed to his heavenly home on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Gib was born November 17, 1933 in Gillette, Texas to King and Rosalee Jackson.
Gib enlisted in the military before graduating high school. Less than a month later he found himself in Hawaii. He was stationed in Inchon, South Korea in July of 1951 as a Rifleman with the 3rd Infantry and soon became a Combat Medic. After his time in South Korea he received a reward; an assignment to the city of Wiesbaden, located in what was then West Germany. He had a wonderful year as he travelled all over Europe – Amsterdam, Paris, and Brussels. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
Upon his return to the states he wanted to work for Coastal States Gas Corporation. He moved to Corpus Christi and was instructed to sit outside the office every day until he was offered a job. After months of sitting and waiting and asking if they had work, his persistence paid off and he was hired as a truck driver. The company was acquired by Valero shortly after he was hired. He was promoted and became one, of a 3-person team that would determine and regulate oil and gas distribution across the country. Gib retired from Valero Corporation in 1992.
While working for Coastal in Corpus Christi, Gib met Sara, his wife of 42 years. It was love at first sight! After encouragement from his supervisors he asked her out. They went to the company picnic together and the rest is history.
Gib and Sara moved to Boerne in 1992 to enjoy their retirement. They enjoyed the Hill Country, travelling to Victoria, to visit his mother, Rosalee, and numerous cities in Texas.
Gib is survived by his loving wife, Sara Alicia M. Jackson of Boerne; his children, Cindy Jackson (Pat) Bell, Cole (Ann) Jackson, Robin Jackson Wehmeyer; his grandchildren, Brenna Box (Steve) Troy, Cody Box, Dusty, Taylor and Shayla Wehmeyer, Nichole and Breanne Williams; his great- grandchildren, Tatum and Teal Wehmeyer and Charlotte Troy; his sister, Barbara (Raymond) Gregor of Temple, Texas and brother Wendell (Charlene) Jackson of Houston, Texas; his sister-in-law ,Thelma M.
