Obituary for Robert Leslie Wall

Robert L.(Bob) Wall, 86, journeyed peacefully to his heavenly home on July 9, 2017. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God was evidenced throughout his life. Bob was a friend to everyone he met.
Bob was born to the late Jacob Jennings and Louise Anna Wall, a Mennonite pastor and a homemaker respectively, in Los Angeles, CA, on November 22, 1930. He graduated from Corning Union High School and attended Tabor Community College. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1965. While stationed in Corpus Christi he became smitten with Doris Yvonne Vadnais. They were married on March 3, 1956 and raised their four children in Boerne.
Bob began his second career in the auto parts business opening Boerne Auto Supply, the first NAPA store in Boerne. Bob had never met a stranger, and was known to open the parts store in the wee hours of the night for the occasional stranded motorist, opening his home to them while they awaited repair. After a few years, he opened Bob’s Motor Parts.
Upon retirement, Bob spent time with his family, traveling, trying out new restaurants and supporting a variety of charitable organizations in Boerne. He was a past member of the Boerne Lions’ Club, Boerne Turn Verein Bowling Alley, Kendall County Fair Association, and Boerne Genealogy Society. His beloved grandchildren called him “Dado” and he was their number one sports fan, always in attendance.
God and family were his priority. He often served as peacemaker when the typical family tensions arose and always reminded everyone that relationships and family are what is most important. His favorite quote was “when things get tough, always look up” – pointing to the sky.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, “JJ” and Louise Wall; his loving wife Doris Vadnais Wall; daughter Renee Wall; his brother Eldon Wall; and sister Marjorie Zeilenga. He is survived by his children, Regina (Steve) Tripp, Rick (Cindy) Wall, and Ron (Susan) Wall; grandchildren, Chris Tripp (Stephanie), Kyle Tripp (Jennifer), Kayley Wall, Annie Wall; and great-grandchildren, Landon, Caden, and Jaxon Tripp. He dearly loved his numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Boerne on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 2:00 PM. Immediately following the service there will be a reception for family and friends. Private burial to follow.
