Obituary for Suzanne Kuhn Hansen

Suzanne (Susie) K. Hansen entered into eternal rest on June 5, 2017. Susie was a vibrant and beautiful woman who positively impacted many people during her dynamic life that was full of laughter and smiles. People who met Susie never forgot her and many people who never met Susie felt the gifts of her generous spirit.

Susie was born on April 10, 1932, in Emlenton PA, to DeWitt and Lois Glynn Kuhn. At age 5, Susie and her mother moved to Bellevue (Pittsburgh), PA to be closer to family. Susie grew up in a household of strong women whose influence was seen in how Susie approached life's joys and pains with courage, compassion, and perseverance. Susie attended Elementary and High School, and then Thiel College while in Pennsylvania. She married James Jones and they had three children together. She travelled and lived in several Air Force base locations in the U.S., including San Antonio and at the Panama Canal. Susie was preceded in death by her parents and first husband.

While in San Antonio, Susie had a successful direct mail marketing firm known as SK Hansen & Associates. She met Don Hansen at House of Prayer Lutheran Church in 1981 and they married in 1982. Susie and Don shared a happy and vibrant marriage for 35 years, which were filled with family events involving their seven children and their extended families, dozens of friends, work and travel. After Don retired from USAA, they moved to Maryland in 1986 where Susie became the Mid-Atlantic Distributer for ABC Quilts for babies with AIDS.

In 1993, Don and Susie moved to Tellico Village, Tennessee, and built their retirement home. Susie remained active in her faith and in developing new friends and contributing to this new community. As a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Susie served as Altar Guild Leader, 2 terms as Council President, and led the development of a new women's ministry, Katie's Sisters. Susie also served as Scholarship Chair for AX Chapter, P.E.O. and coordinated many social events at the Tellico Yacht Club. During their years based at Tellico Village, Susie and Don also enjoyed traveling the world and were fortunate to visit multiple great countries and cities in trips that brought them to all seven continents.

Susie was loved greatly by many. She was always there for people when it most seemed like they needed her unique blend of listening and guidance. Many people felt she was like a second mom or cherished sister to them. Susie's outgoing personality made everyone feel welcome and you could always look forward to her bright smile and firm handshake or hug. Susie's grace, social, and organizing skills led her to co-host many charity events, fashion shows, and luncheons at the Tellico Village Yacht Club, and through church and PEO with close friends. Susie's culinary and decorating flair formed the basis for many a fun and vibrant brunch, dinner party and holiday party hosted at the Hansen's Tellico Village home. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is missed but will remain forever in our hearts. We will always remember her voice and her easy laugh, and the phrases that were uniquely Susie: Toodleloo - gotta run; everything is Jakey-Jake; TTFN (ta ta for now). Her family is grateful for the outpouring of affection and fond memories shared by dozens whom she loved and who loved her dearly. We are also grateful that we each could spend time with her in the last weeks of her life. Her earthly work is done, but her many contributions will endure for years to come.

Susie is survived by her husband, Donald (Don) D. Hansen, and children, James D. Jones (Eva), Kathleen J. Flynn, Barbara 'Barbie Sue' Jones, Carla J. Godsey (Wade), Karen M. Hansen, Martha H. Behrend (Jim), Amy F. Hansen (Bob Steinhagen), grandchildren, Ryan P. Flynn (Melissa), Megan K. Flynn, Kayla N. Haecker, Sophie G. Behrend, Peter H. Behrend, and great-grandsons, Brennan and Nolan Flynn. She is also survived by half-sisters Cornelia (CK) Hennon (Bill), Beverly Kuhn, and Gretchen Kuhn.
