Obituary for Betty Jane Naquin

Betty Jane Naquin
January 16, 1945 – October 3, 2018

Betty Jane Melancon Naquin of San Antonio, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on October 3, 2018 at the age of 73.

Betty was born on January 16, 1945 to parents Yves and Inez Melancon in Thibodaux, Louisiana. She grew up as the youngest of six children and attended Raceland High School. On July 21, 1965, she married the love of her life, Rodney Naquin, and the couple raised two daughters in Howe, Texas, where they were active leaders in the church, school, and community. Betty worked at Texas Instruments until her retirement in 1998.

Betty was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Betty was a crafty soul who enjoyed developing her artistic side and gifting family and friends with her handiwork. She could nearly always be found in the company of grandchildren or an adventurous group of friends, and sometimes both. She felt particularly blessed to spend her time with either and she consistently blessed those around her. Her ready smile and fun-loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Rhonda Donowho and husband Bryan, and Rochelle Naquin and husband, Bruce Pollock; five grandchildren, Taylor Donowho, Corynna Coget and husband Alan, Brooks Donowho, Sawyer Donowho, and Ellie Donowho; her siblings, Harold Melancon, Dolores Ledet, Margaret Daniel, and Barbara Rivere; along with cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Yves “Buster” Melancon, Jr.

In lieu of a service and viewing, a celebration of Betty’s life is scheduled for Monday, October 8, 2018 from 1:00 - 3:00 in the afternoon at Hill Country Retreat Resort; 4550 Del Webb Blvd, San Antonio, Texas. All are welcome to come and go, share memories, and celebrate Betty’s life. Flowers are appreciated, but as Rodney and Betty were both lifelong supporters of the Lions Club, consider a memorial contribution in her memory to your local Lions Club chapter instead.

Following this celebration, Betty will be interred with her husband in the family tomb at St. Joseph cemetery in Thibodaux, Louisiana at a future date to be determined.
