Obituary for Jimmy Gordon James

Jimmy Gordon James
7/28/1937 – 10/7/2018

Jimmy James passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018 at his home in San Antonio. He was born to Gordon Thomas James and Jewell Durham James on July 28, 1937 in Houston, Texas.

Upon graduation from Reagan High School, Jimmy enlisted in the US Navy. After fulfilling his term of service, he came back to Houston and married Helen Skoba in 1959. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Corpus Christi where he had taken a job with Coastal States Gathering Company in the exciting new field of data processing. His career grew along with the company until he retired in 1992 from Valero Energy Corporation.

Jimmy loved golf. He learned the game as a caddy at Memorial Park Golf Course and was good enough to play for Regan High School. As a scratch golfer, he won many amateur and Club tournaments over the years and broke 80 in his last round. As a teacher, he brought his love of the game to his son and grandchildren, as well as generously supporting the First Tee organization. Throughout his life he never tired of playing, studying, watching, teaching or reading about golf.

Jimmy enjoyed sharing life with his wife Helen and their two children, Michael and Diane. The family enjoyed traveling together and growing in love for each other and God. He valued time spent with his family fishing and hunting.

He loved his country and kept a close eye on the goings-on in Washington. As his family grew he was delighted to welcome his four grandchildren into the world. He gifted them his time and they cherish the relationship that each was able to have with him throughout the many blessed years they shared in his life.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Jewell, and brothers Jerry and Edgar. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen; son, Michael and wife Kim; daughter Diane and husband Brennan; grandchildren Jennifer, Dana, Christopher and Tanner; great-grandchildren Audrey Helene and Brennan Charles. He is also survived by his brother Carlton James who currently resides in New Jersey. We love you Papa and entrust you into the merciful hands of our Loving God.
