Obituary for Dorothy Jane Benac

Dorothy Jane Benac
04/01/1936 – 12/6/2017

Dotty went to be with the Lord unexpectantly on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at the age of 81. She was preceded by her husband Daniel Vincent Benac; her parents James and Wilda Stanek; and sisters, June, Pat, and Sally. She is survived by her son Dan (Dianne) Benac; daughters, Cheryl (Noel) Lucas, Jamie (Jim) Rendall; son Jeff (Jennifer) Benac; grandchildren, Adam (Alice) Rendall, Drew (Hannah) Benac, Dustin (Casey) Benac, David (Kaity) Benac, Dylan Benac, Jacob Benac, Joshua Benac, and Hannah Benac; and great-grandchildren: Lane Benac, Cooper Benac and Cade Benac. She is also survived by her brother Jim (Sharon) Stanek of Bradenton Florida.
Dotty was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She was the oldest of five children. She met her husband to be, Daniel, at a dance hall and married in 1955. They moved to a newly developed community, called Streamwood, in the rural farm lands of Illinois. Dotty worked part-time jobs to help supplement the family income, all the while being a fulltime home maker. Dan and Dotty added on to the Streamwood house and stayed there until after the kids were grown. Daniel, her husband of 36 years passed in 1991 after a long struggle with emphysema. After Daniel’s death, Dotty moved to Florida to be close to her siblings and warm weather. Traveling was a big part of this new chapter of her life. She graduated from travel school in 1993 and became a travel agent for a short time. Dotty then went to explore the world; traveling to Europe and Alaska. She loved going to and sharing Disney World with family as well as camping and cruise trips.
Throughout her life, Dotty took on many challenges, raising children on meager means, caring and faithfully supporting her chronically ill husband. In her later years, she had her own health challenges; but she was thankful to be a survivor of both breast and lung cancer.
In 2006, Dotty moved from Florida to Boerne to be closer to most of her children and grandchildren. Her relocation to Boerne began another chapter in her life in which she intentionally got to know her grandchildren better and be a part of their lives. She was a true “gamer” and loved to play family board and card games and was a regular at the bridge table each Friday at the Kronkosky Place. Dotty most enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events; celebrating birthdays, graduations, weddings and any other celebrations or reason to be together as a family.
In the latter years of her life, Dotty trusted and believed that Jesus Christ was her personal savior. She truly enjoyed attending First Baptist Church and her beloved Sunday School class. She was one of the youngest in her class. Her new found faith was so evident to those who interacted with her; she displayed acts of love, joy, peace, patience and kindness to all, especially her children and grandchildren which brought her great joy.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be given to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Society or Rainbow Senior Center at Kronkosky Place, 17 Old San Antonio Rd. Boerne, TX 78006.
Her burial service will be conducted later in Illinois. A Memorial Service was held Monday, December 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Boerne.
