James Young Eliot
January 10, 1942 – December 12, 2017

James Young Eliot, 75, passed away at peace from pancreatic cancer at his home in Boerne, Texas, on December 12, 2017. Born in Corsicana, Texas, on January 10, 1942, to Anna Mae (Young) and George W. Eliot, he lived many places throughout his life but spent most of his years in Denton, Texas.
James graduated from Kemper Military Academy and went on to earn his BBA from the University of North Texas in 1966 where he joined Kappa Sigma Fraternity, a decision that brought him a lifetime of friendship. James was also a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Reserves. During his professional career, he was an active member of the Rotary Club and enjoyed operating his successful printing business in Denton for almost twenty years. A man of books and learning, James was also a great listener and enjoyed lively debate and conversation as well as hearing and telling great stories, most of which were true. Above all, he loved North Texas Mean Green football and the company of his lifelong friend Stony Davis of Aspen, Colorado, and his brother-in-law, Richard H. Kelsey.
James was very proud of his three daughters, Margaret Anna Eliot (husband Chris Laserinko) of Boston, Massachusetts, Clara Eliot Oliver (Bruce) of Austin, Texas, and Emily Eliot Drapela (Dave) of Boerne, Texas. He was preceded in death by his brother George W. Eliot, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Karin Marsh Eliot, and his sister Ann Kelsey (Richard) of Denton, Texas. James also had three grandchildren that he loved very much: Charles Drapela, and sisters Paige and Maggie Oliver. James also loved being an uncle to John E. Kelsey (Lisa) of Argyle, Texas, and Holly A. Kelsey of Denton, Texas. He will also be missed by grand niece and nephew, Kara Eveleth (Tyler) and Kyle Kelsey of Denton.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 10:00am at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne, Texas, A private family internment ceremony will be held at a later time at the family’s Grape Creek Cemetery in Navarro County, Texas.
