Obituary for Patty Sue McDonald

Patty Sue Gallier McDonald
January 16, 1942 – January 29, 2018
Patty Sue Gallier McDonald of Pipe Creek, Texas, went to be with the Lord on January 29, 2018 in Boerne, Texas. She was 76.
Patty grew up in South Texas. She loved the beaches of Port Aransas and gained local fame for her talent and beauty as Miss Shrimporee while in high School. She met Dennis McDonald in a mutual friend’s wedding and Dennis said she was the prettiest girl he had ever seen. But flattery wasn’t enough to impress Patty; Dennis had to ask her out four times before she relented.
Patty and Dennis were married on June 30, 1961, in the same church where they’d met. Fifty-six years later, her faithful partnership with Dennis is a wonderful example of a godly marriage. She leaves behind a legacy of beauty, love and a life well-lived.
Always industrious, Patty worked as a bookkeeper, a decorator and in many other jobs over the years. But her life’s great work was in loving and raising her children: Rebecca, James, Lisa and Jessica.
Her mission was to show people they were loved, teach children about Jesus and remind all of us that we mattered to her. She never missed a birthday card, a “Happy Anniversary” call or congratulation for any accomplishment, no matter how small it may have been. Patty noticed people, kept track of their lives and made sure they knew how important they were.
She loved making things beautiful, especially during holidays. Her home and table were open to countless guests over the years. She didn’t just say she loved you; she showed you. She never met a stranger—from waiters to nail salon employees to mechanics and computer technicians—she wanted to know your story, didn’t forget your name and never failed to turn any encounter with another person into an opportunity to make them smile and show them the love of Jesus.
“Miss Patty” taught elementary school bible classes to countless numbers of children. Generations of Christ followers remember how she encouraged them in their faith and loved them well.
Patty is survived by her loving husband, Dennis McDonald; her daughters Lisa McDonald Warren and Jessica McDonald Gombert; two sons-in-law, Ronald Gombert and Lee Warren; seven grandchildren, Kevin McDonald, Joshua Fraser, Caitlyn Vanepps, Madison Gombert, Grant Gombert, Kimberlyn Dryden and Kalyn Warren; two grandsons-in-law, Nathan Vanepps and Bryce Dryden; two great-grandchildren, Scarlett Vanepps and George Vanepps; and a grandson-in-law to be Matthew Meron (engaged to Madison Gombert). She was preceded in death by two children Rebecca Renee McDonald and James William McDonald; and one grandchild, Mitchell Warren.
Patty lived a life of purpose, loved Jesus and everyone she met and leaves us with more smiles and warm memories than one life should be able to hold. She made a difference, for all of us.
A celebration of Patty’s life will be held Sunday, February 4, 2018 at 3 p.m. in the new sanctuary at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to two mission organizations dear to Patty’s heart: Project Red Foundation at Launch Global at and select Madison Gom (acct 580).
