Obituary for Betty Morello Fuqua

Betty Lee Morello Fuqua
November 16, 1933 – March 15, 2018

Betty Lee Morello Fuqua passed away peacefully on March 15, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born November 16, 1933, to Charles and Zula (Brockman) Morello of San Antonio, Texas.

Betty attended Jefferson High School and was fondly referred to as “Betty Mo.” She was an Honor Roll student, captain of the Jefferson Lassos and graduated in 1951. Playing the piano with her Mother and fishing with her Father at Medina Lake nurtured her love of music and the outdoors. After high school Betty fell in love and married her high school sweetheart, Allan Blackburn Fuqua. Shortly thereafter, they began a life in the oil and gas industry and had three daughters (Terry, Sandra, and Cindy).

Over the course of the next few decades several moves were required around South Texas, Houston, Denver, Dallas and San Antonio. No matter the location, Betty quickly provided a home and established a community for herself and her family. Betty enjoyed participating in PTA, Petroleum Wives Club and Hill Country New Comers. A life long Presbyterian, the church was her anchor and she was involved in Women’s Circle, Vacation Bible Study and Sunday school. She also loved playing tennis, bridge, caring for her flowers, was an excellent cook, and loved entertaining friends and her family.

In 1983, Allan and Betty together, created Sunray Pool Company which is still in operation. Several years later she continued to co-manage the business while enduring breast cancer treatments. In her later years, Betty and Allan enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada, and the states, sharing their love of history and the outdoors. Her greatest joy was her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty Morello Fuqua was preceded in death by her brother Louis Morello; sisters Maudi Morello Rudi, Jeanette Morello Vorpahl, Nita Morello Paris, Kathleen Morello Donaldson, and Charlene Morello Covington. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Allan Fuqua; her sister Helen Morello Douglass; her daughters Terry Fikes, husband Ralph ; Sandra Fuqua; Cynthia Fuqua, wife Catherine Babbitt. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Justin Fikes, wife Christti; Katherine Fikes; and two great-grandchildren Blake and Courtney Fikes.

The last year of her life was spent at Franklin Park Memory Care in Alamo Heights, where her smile and laughter brought joy to all who cared for her. Her family is forever grateful for the loving care provided by the caregivers at Franklin Park, Erin Moya and staff with Embrace Hospice, and Sandra Senecal. We will carry her in our hearts and she will be dearly missed.
