Obituary for Ronald Dean Reisinger

Ronald Dean Reisinger - LONG VERSION
July 17, 1939 to May 11, 2018

Ron was born in Seward, NE, to parents Helen "Marge" Hindman Reisinger and Marion "Pat" Reisinger. He moved with his parents, who were teachers, to various teaching positions and settled in Sheldon, IA, for his high school years. During this time, while his father taught math and physics and his mother was librarian for the Sheldon Community School District, Ron met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Marlene Carole Wiekamp. After high school he briefly attended Iowa State University but transferred to Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa) and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1961. Later he received his Master's Degree in August 1970, at the University of South Dakota, Vermilion. In 1961 he began his participation in the Marine Corps Reserves.
Ron and Marlene married in 1960 and had early teaching jobs in Belmond, IA (1962) in Atlantic, IA (1967) and in Emmetsburg, IA (1972.) Their daughter Rhonda was born in 1966 and a second daughter, Krista, was born in 1968. In 1973, the Reisinger family moved to Riceville, IA, where Ron taught high school chemistry, physics, and computer science for 13 years. Ron was busy in the community: he was a coach for girls' track and field, began and coached girls' volleyball, and refereed many basketball and football games. He was on the city council and held various positions at the United Methodist Church in Riceville. He will be remembered for his dedication to students and the community of Riceville.
In 1986 Ron and Marlene moved to Moreno Valley, CA where Ron taught in Perris, CA. Upon retirement, they enjoyed genealogy and traveling. They traveled to every state in the US and 21 foreign countries. Ron was instrumental in fundraising for a new Moreno Valley United Methodist Church.
Ron and Marlene purchased a summer home near Lake Okoboji, IA, where they summered and subsequently lived after retirement. This home brought fond memories of boating, card playing, and family time. Ron and Marlene wintered in Boerne, TX, and later moved to the Menger Springs Retirement Community where Marlene continues to reside. Ron continued to enjoy church activities including singing in the choirs in the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church, Boerne United Methodist Church, and the Menger Springs Singers.
Ron passed away in the company of his family. He is preceded in death by his parents Pat and Marge Reisinger and his son-in-law Robert Leifur. He is survived by his wife Marlene Reisinger; their daughter Rhonda Leifur; her sons Erik along with his wife Amaris and his daughter Ela, Ross, and twins Ronald Quinn and Ryan. They reside in the San Antonio area. He is also survived by daughter Krista Hirth along with husband Mark, and their children Hannah and twins Coby and Haley. Krista's family lives in the Philadelphia area.
