Sydney Scott Ewing was born November 30, 1938 near Huntsville, AR in a log cabin built by her father. Her parents were Horace Lafayette (H.L.) Scott and Lynn Dykes Scott. Sydney died peacefully on May 25, 2018 after a one month battle with an aggressive cancer at age 79. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Phillip Scott. Sydney began her education in a one-room schoolhouse near Huntsville, AR with grades 1-8 taught by one teacher. She graduated from Claremore, OK high school and received a BA in History from Central State University in Edmond, OK. She went on to receive a MA in Sociology from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville; AR. Sydney married Leigh Ewing in 1964. She was an avid baker and won the grand prize for bread making at the Texas State Fair in 1970. She became active pursuing volunteer work for the Republican Party in Houston and San Antonio and managed several local elections in San Antonio. She decided it was time for a professional career to avoid the empty nest situation and decided to attend Law School. She graduated from St Mary's University Law School in 1988 at age 49 where she was named Senior Associate Editor of St Mary's Law Journal. Sydney practiced law for seven years in Boerne, TX mostly at the Law Firm of J. Ken Nunley. After retiring Sydney and Leigh enjoyed tending to their ranch and traveling around the world. Sydney was an easy going person with an infectious smile. Her ability and talents for hosting friends and family were renowned. Friends, family, and her dog Ranger will miss her greatly.
