Obituary for Janice Eileen Hayes

Janice Eileen Hayes
November 18, 1945 – June 18, 2018

“I love you!” These words were always how Jan Hayes closed her conversations and were the last ones she spoke. After an amazingly full life and brave fight, Jan left all the pain and sickness of cancer behind on June 18, 2018. She had her best friends - her two children and her sister - holding her as she made the voyage to her new home.

Everyone who knew Jan, loved Jan. She was the consummate mother, grandmother, friend, teacher, advocate - the list is so long! Jan’s love for people was manifest in her dedication to teaching. She was a gifted teacher, full of patience and a deep belief that all kids can learn. She dearly loved her fellow teachers, many of whom became family to us. To Alan, Rojeanne, and Linda for your miles of Iles smiles; to Teri, Diane, Michelle and all of the SFA family; to the Champion teachers who welcomed her into their rooms; to all of the professionals she had the honor to work with - Thank you! She loved you and cherished her relationship with you! For Jan, it was all about the kids and she treated every student she had as if they were her own child.

Jan loved Jesus! Her greatest desire was that everyone have a deep and abiding personal relationship with their Father. She was active in her church, teaching Sunday School, volunteering with VBS, and most recently, serving and leading in the Radiant Women’s Ministry at 1910 Church. Thank you to her sisters in Christ for the fellowship and love. Thank you to her dear Boerne friends for your constant friendship, support, and prayers.

Born Janice Eileen Vaughn on November 18, 1945 to Lloyd and Eileen Vaughn, Jan grew up in Harrisburg, Illinois, with her sisters Carol Lane and Tina Henshaw. Jan married Jack Hayes, the great love of her life, in 1965. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Carol, nephews Todd Lane and Brian Lane, her stepson Kevin Hayes, and her husband Jack Hayes. She is survived by her sister Tina; her daughter Jodi Hayes Spoor, her husband Stephen Spoor, and daughters Emma and Eileen; her son Jarrod Hayes, his wife Julie Hayes, and daughters Jillian and Jenna; her stepdaughter Tammy Hayes; her stepdaughter Tiffany Hayes Moore and her son Dillon Hayes; Jackie Hayes, daughter of Kevin Hayes; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
