Obituary for Emma "Connie" Rentz

Emma “Connie” Rentz passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 20, 2018, surrounded by her children and grandsons.
Connie was born to Emmanuele and Carmela Attard on November 2, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan. She is survived by her sons, Jerry Rentz and wife Lisa and Kirk Rentz and wife Stephanie; grandsons, Bryan Fischer, Brent Fischer and wife Courtney, Austin Rentz, Reagan Rentz, Devin Rentz, and Carter Rentz; great-grandchildren, Kali Fischer and Alivia Fischer; brother, John Attard; sisters, Melita Grech and Diann Maisel; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Rentz; daughter, Karen Rentz; and sisters, Rita Van Zeck, Josephine Langston and Jean Warren.
Connie grew up in Detroit, Michigan in a large happy home. Her parents immigrated from Malta before she was born, and she was very proud of her Maltese heritage. Her father worked hard at Ford Motor Co. where Connie would eventually work as well. Her mother was the matriarch of the family and made sure the children and household were taken care of which is what Connie would later do for her own family.
Connie met the love of her life, Jerry, on the beach in Florida where her family spent their summers. Jerry was on leave from the Navy and this is where their love story began. He would eventually ask for her hand in marriage and they later married in Dearborn, Michigan. Together, they lived a military life until Jerry finished his service. After that time, they moved to Texas where they both worked until they started their family. Connie told many stories as to the hard times they faced raising a family and working long hours just to put food on the table. In 1960, Jerry opened Rentz Electric where he and Connie would ultimately work as a team to build a business they would eventually turn over to their sons. Connie and Jerry moved their family from Canyon Lake to Boerne, TX where they remained until their retirement to Rockport, TX in 1996.
Connie was a devoted Catholic and had a deep faith and relationship with the Lord. She loved her family unconditionally and would go to the ends of the Earth for her family and grandchildren. In her mind, they could do no wrong. Grandma was known to chase the kids down, with medicine in hand, to treat whatever bumps, bruises or scrapes they might have. She was an amazing cook and everyone looked forward to her meals, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Connie was a strong, outspoken, no nonsense lady. There was never a doubt in anyone’s mind where she stood on issues and she was not shy about letting you know. She loved the mountains in Colorado, hunting and fishing with Jerry, one arm bandits in Vegas, playing Mahjong, and shopping.
Connie missed her soulmate, Jerry, every day for the remainder of her life. Her family draws comfort in knowing she is in the presence of the Lord and free to enjoy eternal life in heaven. There she was met by her husband, daughter and loved ones. She will be deeply missed.
The Funeral will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Interment following at the Boerne Cemetery. To leave condolences for the family, please visit
