Obituary for Larry Eugene Summerfield

Larry Eugene Summerfield was born to Raymond Elmer and Grace Viola Summerfield in Redmond, Oregon, on December 6, 1945. He grew up as the baby of five. He was freed from this physical world on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at the age of 71.
Larry was mischievous and fun-loving. He loved animals, especially dogs and horses. He was a great diver and was active in many sports including swimming, football, wrestling and boxing. Larry enjoyed riding motorcycles, bowling, playing with his kids, and fishing. He always loved competition whether as a competitor or spectator.
Larry joined the Navy in 1963 when he was 17 years old and became a dispersing clerk. He met Jacqueline “Jackie” Yvonne Tucker at the Naval Air Station movie theater concession stand where he worked. After his first deployment, they were married in National City, California, on November 12, 1965. Their growing family was stationed in many places including California, Italy, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Florida. During this time, Larry earned several medals for good conduct and his service in Vietnam.
In December 1977, Larry suffered life-altering injuries stemming from a motorcycle accident. For the last 40 years, he lived in several nursing facilities and had countless wonderful doctors, nurses, aides and peers. While there, he liked to watch football, flirt with the nurses and aides, and would try to escape which would sound the alarms. Even though he was unable to communicate verbally, Larry was always happy to see his family.
Larry is survived by his wife, Jackie, and his four children: Susan Lynette Summerfield Perez, Larry Eugene Summerfield, II, Raymond Elmer Summerfield, and Jenafer Rene Summerfield LaBree. He was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren with a 5th on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Linda, and several nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
All services will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Honey Creek. Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.
